TUTORS
  • David Bondelevitch / University of Colorado Denver's College of Arts & Media

    David Bondelevitch, MPSE, CAS is an Associate Professor in the Music & Entertainment Industry Studies Recording Arts Program at the University of Colorado Denver's College of Arts & Media. David is a music & dialogue editor and re-recording mixer. His most recent projects include mixing the documentary Southwest of Salem, which recently won a Peabody Award. He also mixed the cult comedy Jimmy Vestvood: Amerikan Hero starring Persian-American comedian Maz Jobrani. Previously, he mixed Driven to Ride, about women who ride motorcycles, and Above the Ashes, about a devastating fire near Boulder, which destroyed over 100 homes. The film aired on PBS. Bondelevitch won a Heartland Emmy as Associate Producer on the film. He was also nominated for Audio (as Sound Designer). The film was also nominated for an MPSE Golden Reel Award.

     

    He also completed work on the mini-series Mile High Jungle, a National Geographic series about the Wild Animal Sanctuary near Denver, and their efforts to rescue abused circus lions from Panama and Bolivia. He was also music editor for the independent feature film The Six Wives of Henry Lefay (starring Tim Allen) and the Lifetime series State of Mind, starring Lily Taylor.

     

    He won a Primetime Emmy in 2000 for Sound Editing on the TNT movie The Hunley, starring Donald Sutherland and Armand Assante. He has also won MPSE Golden Reel Awards for his work on the Showtime musical Ruby’s (starring Angela Basset) and the Imax documentary film Island of the Sharks. He has been nominated for Golden Reel Awards a record twenty-two times.

     

    He is Past President of the Motion Picture Sound Editors and is currently Secretary of the Cinema Audio Society. He was also co-editor of the CAS Quarterly. He was also an Assistant Professor at the USC School of Cinematic Arts, where he was faculty from 1993 – 2008. He holds a BS in Art and Design from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and he holds a separate B. Mus. from the Berklee College of Music in Boston. He also holds an MFA in film production from USC.

     

    David is a member the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, the American Federation of Musicians (Local 47), the Audio Engineering Society, the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, Film Independent, the International Documentary Association, and BMI (Broadcast Music, Incorporated) as a writer/publisher.

     

  • Slawomir Kalwinek / Polish National Film School in Lodz

    Presented by Creative Europe Desk Lithuania MEDIA office

    A film director, tutor at the Department of Film and Television at the Polish National Film School in Lodz. As a director and tutor he has participated in numerous film, theatre and cross-media projects. Currently he is involved in interactive web-doc projects and 360 doc films. Slawomir Kalwinek teaching methods are based on prof. Grazyna Kedzielwaska' book “Handbook of the Documentarist”, which is used as the teaching course at Polish National Film School in Lodz. The basis of this method is opening, stimulating, and igniting students to a creative interpretation of reality. Students are encouraged to find their own expression on lessons and show it without fear in documentary films.

     

    Lecture topic: “A Man”, a sketch of a documentary film. Participants will use many documentary filmmaker's skills – observation, interviews with an individual, an event reconstruction or a staging. It is the conscious use of acquired skills used to portray protagonists and checking students ‘toolkit’ depending on the needs and characteristics of a specific protagonist. This is an important exercise before making a film which checks students’ awareness of their own capabilities. Tutor encourages the making of notes and searching for new solutions in ‘seeing a person’.

     

  • Mantautas Krukauskas / Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre

    A composer and sound artist, tutor at the Department of Composition of Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, as well as Head of Music Innovation Studies Centre. His compositions, including chamber music, audiovisual and sound art works, music for theatre productions have been performed in Lithuania, Austria, Germany, France, Canada, USA, and other countries. Mantautas Krukauskas has been actively involved in various organizational activities, including project coordination, event organizing, participation in international artistic, research and educational programmes. His interests comprise interdisciplinarity, creativity, music and media technologies, and a synergy of different aesthetic and cultural approaches.

     

    Lecture topic: Spatial sound techniques in contemporary film and media contexts.

     

  • Jonas Jurkūnas/ Lithuanian Academy of music and theatre

    Jonas Jurkūnas is a composer keen on discovering and exploiting very different layers of musical creativity, from academic to pop and film music. Genre-wise, his creative portfolio includes chamber and orchestral pieces as well as electronic music, multimedia and interdisciplinary projects. Stylistically, his music finds itself in the neighbourhood with minimalism and new tonality. Very often he uses simple sound patterns, pulsating with rhythms, as his creative start-up while searching for new or already forgotten timbres and expressions. These are the minimalist strategies which the composer weaves into his music together with experimental or club-style electronics, ambient stylistics, as well as elements of jazz, pop or even romantic music.

In June, 2017 young film professionals and film school students are welcome to gather at the Lithuanian seaside area Neringa. For the nineteenth time Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre invites to attend an intensive two-week workshop Summer Media Studio (SMS) where the discussion on music and sound design in film will be developed and short films will be produced. The workshop will begin on the 18 th of June and will last until the 30th of June.
